Apart from its unique culture, Japan is one of the favorite destination countries for international students to continue their studies. Several well-known universities in Japan are being targeted by Indonesian students, such as the University of Tokyo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Osaka University, Kyoto University, and so on.

For those of you who want to study in Japan without having to worry about costs, there is an Asia Bridge Program (ABP) scholarship for you to choose from. This scholarship is a collaborative industry-academy program from Shizuoka University aimed at high school graduates/equivalent students from Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar.

The Asia Bridge Program (ABP) is an industry-academy collaboration program from Shizuoka University aimed at high school graduates/equivalent students from Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. As discussed above, this program was held because of close collaboration with global companies from Shizuoka.

The program’s curriculum emphasizes a balanced, interdisciplinary education with a focus on a combination of technical expertise, expertise in business practices, scientific thinking, and interpersonal skills so that students grow as links between Shizuoka and their home countries.

Asia Bridge Program Scholarship Coverage

The Asia Bridge Program also provides financial assistance to all students. The following is the scope of scholarships that you can get:

  • Free registration fees, entrance fees
  • Free first year tuition fees.
  • Assistance for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years such as exemption from tuition fees and other fees of 50% or 100% based on the annual assessment of student academics.
  • A monthly stipend is available for all first year students as well as other government and corporate sponsored funding opportunities.

Terms and Conditions

  • Not a Japanese citizen.
  • Be a citizen of Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar or India.
  • Applicants can obtain appropriate residence status to be able to apply to universities in Japan in accordance with Japanese immigration regulations (Japanese Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act).

Meet ONE of the following requirements (not necessarily all, just one):

  1. Have completed high school/equivalent studies in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, India (open for gap year). This program is open to high school/equivalent students who will graduate in 2023.
  2. Have passed an exam in the country of origin which proves that the applicant has academic abilities equivalent to or higher than the qualifications mentioned in number 4a.
  3. Have an International Baccalaureate diploma issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization, a foundation based on the Swiss Civil Code.
  4. Have an Abitur diploma, which is recognized as a qualification for admission to universities in Germany.
  5. Have a Baccalaureate diploma, which is recognized as a qualification for admission to universities in France.
  6. Have a General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level (GCE A-Level), which is recognized as a qualification for entry to universities in the UK.

If the applicant is from a Japanese high school or international school located in Japan, the study must be no more than three years in duration.

Required Document Files

An essay in Japanese with a length of 500 words containing an explanation of the motivation for applying for a scholarship, the academic field of interest, and the desired career path after completing studies. In PDF Format.

The latest photograph measures 35 mm x 45 mm, with a margin from the photo line to the head of 5-7 mm. Photograph taken within the last 3 months. Minimum image resolution is 150 dpi. In PDF, JPG, GIF, or PNG format.

Copies of academic transcripts in grades 10, 11, and 12. Academic transcripts need to display the name of the principal as well as the official seal or signature of the principal. If the transcript is in Indonesian, participants must attach a translation into Japanese or English.

The translation results must have an official stamp from the organization/institution that translated, or a signature from the translator. And if you already have one, also attach a copy of the final exam results. In PDF, JPG, GIF, or PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 150 dpi.

Diploma/certificate of high school graduation/equivalent. The format is PDF, JPG, GIF, or PNG, with a minimum resolution of 150 dpi.

EJU test results (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students / university entrance exam in Japan for international applicants) or Supplemental Examination for EJU 2020. In format: PDF, JPG, GIF, or PNG, with a minimum resolution of 150 dpi. The EJU test can be taken in English and Japanese. The EJU test in Indonesia is held twice a year (Jakarta and Surabaya).

English proficiency test results, for example, the TOEIC L&R Test, TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition, TOEFL iBT or IELTS. In format: PDF, JPG, GIF, or PNG, with a minimum resolution of 150 dpi.

JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) test results are required for those who have not taken the EJU test.

Especially for applicants who are employees or employees of the company, they must attach an approval form signed by their superior (download form).
