Homeschooling tends to be familiar to the ear, even though many people don’t know what it means. Homeschooling is family-based education that is recognized by the government, so this education is included in the official education category.

Not a few people who consider homeschooling the same as schools in general. Where is the location of teaching and learning moved to the house, even though the meaning of homeschooling is much deeper than just moving school to home.

Homeschooling is family-based education that is carried out independently by the family. Basically, families choose to be responsible and organize their own education for their children.

Advantages of Homeschooling

If a child has potential in the arts, then through homeschooling this talent can be maximized easily. The origins of homeschooling actually come from an educator and writer in the United States who is concerned about the education system in which they teach.

Disadvantages of Homeschooling

With the advantages that exist in homeschooling, it does not mean that homeschooling does not have drawbacks. Homeschooling has disadvantages because children do not have the opportunity to socialize with their peers.

Behind the various advantages of homeschooling, homeschooling practitioners in Indonesia reveal some of the drawbacks of this method. The disadvantages of homeschooling that must be considered are as follows:

  • Homeschooling deprives children of opportunities to socialize. This is because children who are homeschooled may not have many opportunities to socialize in a heterogeneous environment. This will be detrimental compared to children who attend regular schools. Even though children can be friends with the children of the homeschooling community, it is feared that homeschooling activities will affect the child’s ability to work in a team or organization.
  • Homeschooling also requires commitment as parents take responsibility for educating their children at home. So, parents must teach and observe children while learning, and this activity is an activity that is not easy to do.
  • Parents must tend to overprotect their children. Some people feel that homeschooling leads to over-parenting. Parents become excessive in protecting children from things that are considered disturbing the child’s faith.
  • Homeschooling tends to be expensive, so many people are considering this.

What is the Ideal Home for Homeschooling?

The house must have a special room for learning, especially if the learning method is homeschooling. The goal of an ideal home is to create a comfortable learning environment, as well as developing children’s creativity and increasing their focus.

Prioritize Natural Light

Parents can choose a room in the house that has a natural and optimal lighting system. Various studies have proven that natural lighting in learning environments helps improve performance and creativity.

Make sure parents choose wall paint that is suitable for the study house at home, because they have to avoid using dark colors and very light colors for children’s study rooms. The right choice of colors to choose from to color the homeschool walls are pastel colors.

Studying in a hot room will reduce comfort and interfere with the learning process. Therefore, parents can use a study room at home that has good air circulation. In other words, the room is a room equipped with air conditioning, so it can maximize the child’s learning process.

Parents can also choose furniture that supports the learning process, according to the needs of the child. Try to choose a study table that can function as a storage area and a comfortable chair.

Keep the Study Room Tidy

To keep the study room neatly arranged, prepare shelves or storage boxes to store books or stationery. Make it a habit for children to tidy up their books again after finishing studying, so that teaching and learning activities become more conducive.

Of course there are ways so that children don’t feel bored while studying at home, because parents can decorate the study room with posters or boards to stick to their children’s work. The study room can also be decorated according to certain themes that are liked by children.
