This activity is recognized as long as children who are studying take exams according to national standards and pass, so that they are considered equivalent to formal school graduates.

Know About the Curriculum for the Homeschooling Program

Homeschooling programs have a lot of interventions that need to be realized in order to achieve national standards. In order to achieve these standards, homeschooling has a different process for each child who follows it.

Teachers in homeschooling only serve as facilitators in the learning process, so that children can learn from anywhere. Homeschooling basically focuses on children’s needs because it influences the curriculum used.

What are the curriculum for homeschooling programs?

Not a few parents were familiar with homeschooling when the pandemic hit Indonesia. Even though the existence of homeschooling began to spread messages in 2003, when the government issued a law. The law contains a national education system which states that homeschooling is a legal education system.

Home schooling has also been proven to be chosen by parents as an alternative to formal school education. Before deciding to choose homeschooling as an educational option for children, parents must know the curriculum used in homeschooling programs.

Separate Subject Curriculum

There are many types of curriculum that can be used as a reference by parents in organizing homeschooling education. One of them is the separated subject curriculum, which is made with separate subjects from one another.

In this curriculum, each subject does not seem to be one unit because it can be found in the education system in Indonesia. This education system separates the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Indonesian and so on.

Separated subject curriculum has the main characteristic as learning material which is presented systematically in a simple curriculum organization. This curriculum is referred to as the ancient curriculum that is applied in the world of Indonesian education, both in the formal education curriculum and homeschooling.

Correlated Curriculum

Correlated curriculum are subjects that are related to one another so that they are mutually correlated and form a wider scope of coverage. A small example is when children learn religion regarding recommendations for doing good to neighbors, of course this can be linked to civics education learning materials regarding tolerance or helping each other.

Broad Fields Curriculum

Broad Fields Curiculum is a curriculum in homeschooling that seeks to improve the curriculum by combining several subjects. This curriculum usually links mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics into natural sciences (IPA) and combines history, sociology, economics and anthropology into social studies (social sciences).

Integrated Curriculum

The Integrated Curriculum is referred to as an integrated curriculum which is the result of integrating material from several subjects of study. This integration is done by focusing lessons on a problem whose solution requires knowledge from various types of disciplines.

One of them is experimental learning to make a xylophone from used glass bottles so that you can find out how the sound works in the bottle. That way, children can also learn music in this curriculum. This curriculum is usually carried out by homeschooling educators or formal education.

How to Develop a Homeschooling Curriculum?

Homeschooling curriculum development is the development of the various components that make up the curriculum itself. This component itself includes methods, objectives, materials, educators, students, learning resources, media and so on.

Students usually get lessons that are not planned beforehand, so they can develop themselves from these learning methods. In order to gain an understanding of the material that has been studied, students can also study the same thing for weeks or in a shorter period of time.

During this time, understanding is needed as desired and this is the task of the educator. Hidden curriculum tends to occur more frequently in formal schools, because home scholars have more freedom of expression than formal school students.

Homeschooling has principles that are used in two main groups such as general principles which include relevance, effectiveness, practicality, flexibility and continuity. There are also other principles which state that there are 5 principles in curriculum development.

This principle is the relevance that internally the curriculum has material or objectives between components. Externally, these components have epistemological relevance to the demands of science and technology. The demands and potential of these students are demands of the needs of society.

Homeschooling programs also have the principle of flexibility because the curriculum development process must be carried out so that the results are flexible. The purpose of flexibility is the adjustment to the conditions of time and place as well as the competence of the students’ backgrounds.

Another program is continuity, namely the principle of continuity both horizontally and vertically. So that every learning experience in the curriculum must be considered for its continuity both at the class level or between levels.

Another development is the development of efficiency which must be carried out as much as possible by using both time and cost resources. The next principle is effectiveness, in the form of development in order to achieve goals in quality and quantity without any of the components being wasted.

In the homeschooling curriculum, of course there are concepts designed to be developed by humanistic education experts. Because, this education is able to develop the needs of both interests and talents of each individual.

When intending to develop a curriculum for homeschooling, an approach is needed, because in curriculum development there are learning management goals as well as an assessment of the learning objectives themselves. Another improvement model is the Taba model, which is curriculum development including diagnosis, formulation of goals, needs, selection and organization of content, assessment and manifestation of learning experiences.

Scientific engineering models are also used, namely curriculum development including planning, structure of the learning environment, coordination of human resources and materials. Homeschooling programs can be adapted to the needs of the child itself.
