When using effective sentences, you are required to be able to provide guarantees regarding the clarity of the information conveyed, either from the writer to the reader or from the speaker to the listener. This is because effective sentences can make someone understand information more easily.

So, the characteristics of an effective sentence are as follows:

1. Straightforward

Straightforward in an effective sentence means that the information conveyed in a sentence is only the main points, not complicated, and conveyed simply.

2. Appropriate

In an effective sentence, precise means that the information conveyed in the sentence must be accurate and correctly aimed at the target, so accuracy is needed. Imprecise sentences can give rise to multiple interpretations due to ambiguity or ambiguity, that is, meaning that has more than one meaning, becomes unclear, or even creates doubt.

Examples and Use of Effective Sentences

In order to better understand writing effective sentences, here are some examples of effective sentences that can be studied from each characteristic:

If you look closely, sentence a is not effective because the words four eyes and nothing else have the same meaning, namely just the two of you.

  2. Deri hit his cat because he was naughty.
  3. Deri hit his naughty cat.

Sentence a has a dubious meaning because the phrase he is naughty can be interpreted in more than one sense, namely Deri is naughty or the cat is naughty. To avoid misunderstandings, sentence b is created. if Deri is naughty then the sentence can be made into naughty Deri beating his cat.

  2. Based on research that has been carried out, it is known that the quality of service provided can influence customer loyalty.
  3. Based on research that has been conducted, it is known that service quality can influence customer loyalty.

In sentence a, the phrase used is a subordinate clause which does not have complete elements, so it only functions as information.

  2. Brother eats chicken porridge, Sinta eats chicken porridge, and Rendi eats nasi lemak.
  3. Brother and Sinta ate chicken porridge, while Rendi ate nasi lemak.

In sentence a, there are two subjects that have the same predicate and object but are made into different phrases. To make it more concise, the subject is combined in sentence b.

  1. Examples of Parallel Sentences
  2. The table was made by grandfather and my sister helped paint it.
  3. The one who made the table was grandfather and the one who painted it was brother.

For sentence a, the elements that fill the predicate function are not parallel because in the first clause the predicate is in the form of a verb, namely created, while the clause is in the form of a noun, namely grandfather.
